Cohabitation is a model of shared housing for community living. Those who live in a home where they live together live with friends and community members with similar values. India Home is working to establish South Asia's first cohabiting home for seniors in New York. This is an important step in combating the exacerbated social isolation that our older adults have faced during the pandemic.
They hope that this pilot project will be a catalyst for creating many more culturally competent living homes, improving the housing landscape for immigrant seniors in Queens and beyond. The concept of living together for the elderly represents a paradigm shift in the care of the elderly, since it recognizes the profound impact of community life on general well-being. Beyond mere physical space, it cultivates a rich tapestry of shared experiences, mutual support, and vibrant personalities. Every facet of India Home's cohabiting home is designed to encourage a sense of belonging and purpose.
